258 Word Bio

With the solemn sound of Taps, heads bowed, palms united, and author Donna H. Bowman began a tribute to the Tragedy on Luckie Street. A book honoring the four Atlanta firemen who lost their lives; and those who gallantly fought the horrific fire, including Donna’s husband, Danny D. Bowman, current Fire Chief of Forsyth County Georgia. This anniversary of the Davis Brothers Cafeteria Fire was marked with a long awaited ceremony—the first in 40 years. The honorable recognition was well deserved; Donna hoped she could help keep the story—the knowledge gained—alive. Her journey would encompass a year of in-depth research and remarkable discoveries.

Previously, Donna served two years as a journalist/columnist for Georgia’s Dawson Community News. Her four nonfiction books for children include Big Cats (also translated into Portuguese/sold in Brazil); Big Cats, Animal Discovery; Did Dinosaurs Eat People?; and What is the Moon Made of? These books entice young readers to explore and unearth unusual facts about our amazing world.

For five years, Donna served as a Regional Advisor for 600 members in the Southern Breeze Region (AL, GA and MS) of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (21,000 members worldwide), editor/publisher of the Southern Breeze News, plus she co-led two major writing/illustrating conferences in Georgia and Alabama annually during her tenure.

In 2010, she began In Nature’s Image, Inc. where she shares a love of nature through her photography, jewelry designs, and books. What’s next? A fire safety book for children which she co-authored with a Forsyth County firefighter.
